Getting fingerprinted from Lawrence

Fingerprinting Near Me in Lawrence, In-Office or Mobile

Lawrence is the farthest city on our list, so it is worth planning the trip. From downtown Lawrence or the KU campus, take K-10 east toward Johnson County, merge onto I-435 east and follow it around to the Bannister Road exit. Most Lawrence drivers reach 8101 E. Bannister Rd in about 45 to 50 minutes. If you are already heading into the metro for work, booking an appointment around that trip saves a separate drive.

For groups, we come to Lawrence. University departments, clinics, schools and employers can book an on-site session so a whole cohort is fingerprinted in one visit, with group pricing quoted in writing before we book. Individual mobile appointments in Lawrence are available by arrangement, with the travel fee quoted before you book.

Drive time from Lawrence

Getting to our office from Lawrence

Our office at 8101 E. Bannister Rd is roughly 45 to 50 miles from central Lawrence. Most drivers make the trip in about 45 to 50 minutes on K-10 and I-435 when traffic is light.

The usual route is K-10 east out of Lawrence, past De Soto and into Johnson County, where K-10 meets I-435 in Lenexa. Take I-435 south and east around Overland Park, cross State Line Road into Missouri, and continue on I-435 past the US-71 interchange to the Bannister Road exit. The office is a short distance from the exit on E. Bannister Road.

From the KU campus, Iowa Street (US-59) south to K-10 is the quickest way onto the highway. From downtown and East Lawrence, 23rd Street east leads straight onto K-10. From North Lawrence, the Kansas Turnpike (I-70) east to I-435 south is an option, but it adds tolls and is usually no faster than heading back through town to K-10.

Weekday rush hour on K-10 and the Johnson County stretch of I-435 can add a good deal of time, so Lawrence clients often book a late-morning or early-afternoon slot, or a Saturday appointment between 10AM and 3PM. If you already commute into the metro for work, booking around that trip saves a separate drive.

Approximate drive times outside rush hour. Times are estimates and vary with traffic, weather and construction.

Who we serve in Lawrence

Fingerprinting for KU, Haskell and Lawrence employers

As the home of the University of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University, Lawrence sends us more international, academic and student requests than any other city we serve.

Students, researchers and faculty at the University of Kansas frequently need an FBI record before a study-abroad program, a teaching post overseas or a visa for another country. Our FBI Identity History Summary electronic submission is the usual answer, and we can point you toward apostille if the destination country requires it. International students and scholars should read our immigration fingerprinting page first: USCIS biometrics appointments happen at a USCIS Application Support Center, not with us.

KU’s education and social welfare programs, its School of Nursing at KU Medical Center, and Haskell produce graduates applying for licenses in Kansas and beyond. Nursing graduates applying for Kansas Board of Nursing licensure and education graduates applying for Kansas teaching licenses make up a large share of our Lawrence appointments, and many are applying in more than one state at once.

Beyond campus, LMH Health and Lawrence Public Schools (USD 497) are among the city’s largest employers. Hospital and clinic staff, teachers, substitutes and caregivers all come to us for license and employment fingerprinting. Programs onboarding a cohort can book a campus or group session.

Local workplaces & requirements

Hospitals, schools and employers in Lawrence

Lawrence is a university town with a regional hospital, a large school district and a growing base of employers. Here is what staff and students at those places typically need.

We list these institutions as local landmarks to help you work out your own requirement. They are not affiliated with Midwest Identity Services, and your employer, school or licensing board always sets the actual method, card type and ORI number. Bring their written instructions and we will follow them.

The University of Kansas

KU’s Lawrence campus is the city’s largest institution. Students, researchers and faculty most often need an FBI Identity History Summary before a study-abroad program, a teaching post overseas, a research visa or an international job offer. Education students heading into student teaching and licensure use the Kansas KSDE fingerprint card, and graduates moving to other states may need cards for those states too. International students and scholars should know that USCIS biometrics are completed at a USCIS Application Support Center, not with us.

One point that surprises many students: the KU School of Nursing is based at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, with a second campus in Salina, rather than on the Lawrence campus. Pre-nursing students who start in Lawrence usually complete their clinical program and licensure fingerprints while based at the Kansas City campus, which is much closer to our office.

Haskell Indian Nations University

Haskell students and graduates heading into teaching, health, social work and other licensed careers often need fingerprints for a Kansas license or for a license in their home state. Many Haskell students come from outside Kansas, so cards for another state’s board are common, and multi-state print-to-card can produce cards for several agencies from one capture when each permits it.

LMH Health and Lawrence healthcare

LMH Health, anchored by Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Maine Street, is one of the city’s largest employers, alongside a network of clinics, therapy practices and long-term care facilities. Nurses applying for or reinstating a Kansas license use the Kansas Board of Nursing FD-258 card, with the board’s waiver signed on the day the prints are rolled. We fill in the board’s ORI and sign the waiver as your technician. Allied health staff should check their own board’s instructions, and caregivers should read our home health and caregiver page, since many Kansas caregiver checks are name-based rather than fingerprint-based.

Lawrence Public Schools and nearby colleges

Lawrence Public Schools (USD 497), which includes Lawrence High School and Free State High School, employs teachers, substitutes and support staff across the city. Kansas teachers and substitutes use KSDE’s preformatted FD-258 card, which we roll and you mail to KSDE with its separate fee. KSDE also accepts Live Scan from Kansas law enforcement agencies, so some Lawrence educators choose that route instead. Baker University in nearby Baldwin City also sends education and health graduates into Kansas licensing each year.

Government, business parks and employers

The City of Lawrence and Douglas County employ staff in public safety, utilities and administration, and employers in the East Hills Business Park and VenturePark areas run manufacturing, distribution and logistics operations. Fingerprint requirements here are usually set by the employer or by a contract, so ask for the written instructions and card type. Employers with commercial drivers or safety-sensitive roles also use our drug testing and DOT drug and alcohol testing.

A quick guide only. Requirements change, so always follow your employer’s, school’s or board’s current instructions.

Services for Lawrence

Fingerprinting and drug testing services for Lawrence

FBI background checks for study abroad, visas and jobs overseas

This is the most common Lawrence request. Our FBI Identity History Summary Electronic Submission captures your prints electronically and submits them for processing. Results are often returned within 24–72 hours of electronic submission, though timing is set by the FBI and can be longer, so build in time before a program or visa deadline. If the destination country wants an apostille, the U.S. Department of State issues it, and our FBI background check and apostille page walks through the steps.

FD-258 cards for Kansas and out-of-state licenses

Nurses, teachers, insurance producers and other licensed professionals usually mail an FD-258 card to their board. We fill in the ORI number and reason fields from your instructions, roll each finger nail to nail and check every card before you leave, so the drive from Lawrence only has to happen once. Cards and a mailing envelope are included.

Multi-state print-to-card for new graduates

Graduates with offers in more than one state are a big part of our Lawrence work. Multi-state print-to-card captures your prints once and produces multiple FD-258 or agency-specific cards when permitted by the receiving agency.

Kansas real estate and insurance licensing

The Kansas Real Estate Commission describes Live Scan at a Kansas location, such as the KBI in Topeka, as its main route, with mailed FD-258 cards for applicants who cannot complete Live Scan in Kansas. Because Topeka is close to Lawrence, many Lawrence agents use that route; we roll the card where the card route applies. Kansas resident insurance producers can mail the Kansas Insurance Department an FD-258 card from any provider. See Kansas real estate and insurance license fingerprinting.

Immigration-related fingerprinting

We take prints for FBI records, foreign police certificates and attorney or consulate requests. We do not take USCIS biometrics, which happen at a USCIS Application Support Center. Our immigration fingerprinting page explains what we can and cannot do.

Drug testing for Lawrence employers

Lawrence employers in manufacturing, logistics, construction and healthcare use our 5-, 9- and 10-panel non-DOT tests for pre-employment and random programs, and carriers use our DOT testing for drivers. Every collection follows chain-of-custody procedures with certified laboratory analysis. Employers setting up a program get pricing quoted in writing before we book.

Can you do my USCIS biometrics?

No. USCIS biometrics appointments are completed at a USCIS Application Support Center using the appointment notice USCIS sends you. We fingerprint for other immigration-related needs, such as FBI records and foreign police certificates. See immigration fingerprinting.
