Who we work with
When nursing students need fingerprints
Most nursing students are fingerprinted at least twice: once to clear clinical placements, and again when they apply for their license. Each step can have different rules.
Clinical placement clearance
Hospitals and clinical partners that require a fingerprint-based check before students can start rotations.
Graduating cohorts
Final-semester students applying to a state board of nursing for licensure by exam.
Program admission
Programs that ask incoming students for a background check as part of enrollment or orientation.
Students licensing elsewhere
Graduates taking their first job in another state, whose board may want a different fingerprint format.
Allied health programs
Respiratory therapy, radiography, pharmacy technician, CNA and other health science cohorts.
Schools & universities
Deans, clinical coordinators and student services teams organizing checks for a whole class.
Common requirements
Placement checks and licensure checks are not the same
A clinical site, a school and a state board can each ask for something different. We sort out who needs what before the session, so nobody is fingerprinted the wrong way.
| Stage | What is often required | How we handle it |
|---|---|---|
| Clinical placement | A fingerprint-based FBI or state check set by the clinical partner or the school. | We follow the school’s instructions, whether that is FD-258 cards or an FBI Identity History Summary Electronic Submission. |
| Licensure by exam | State boards of nursing often need FD-258 cards or a state-specific electronic submission, usually around the time of the licensure application. | We produce cards or confirm whether the state’s electronic system can be reached from Kansas City. See Live Scan fingerprinting. |
| Florida roles | Florida licensing and AHCA screening use FDLE Live Scan. | We submit Florida Live Scan electronically from our office. |
| Licensing in more than one state | A separate application, and often separate cards, for each board. | One digital capture and multiple printed cards when permitted by each receiving agency. |
Send us your agency instructions, ORI number, application requirements or fingerprint request. We’ll help you identify the correct fingerprinting method before your appointment. The fingerprinting requirements center explains the most common formats.
Campus & group sessions
Fingerprint the whole cohort in one visit
Sending forty students to find their own appointments means forty different results, missed deadlines and cards filled out the wrong way. A campus session puts the whole class through one process, on your schedule, in a room you choose.
- You send the roster in advance, with each student’s board or placement requirement
- We confirm card types and submission methods before the day
- We set up on campus, at orientation or in a skills lab, between classes
- Cards or electronic submissions are completed as each requirement demands
- Consolidated billing to the program, or individual payment by each student
Read how a session runs on our group fingerprinting page. For one student or a small group, mobile fingerprinting may be simpler. Schools that also screen staff or clinical faculty can run everything through a corporate account.
Licensing in more than one state
Applying in multiple states? Get fingerprinted once.
One digital capture. Multiple fingerprint cards. Less time in our office.
Our digital print-to-card system allows us to capture your fingerprints once and efficiently produce multiple FD-258 or agency-specific fingerprint cards when permitted by the receiving agency. Need additional permitted cards later? With your consent, your digital fingerprint record may be securely retained for up to 30 days under our stated retention policy so additional qualifying cards can be produced during that period without repeating the full fingerprint capture. Multi-State Print-to-Card is $60, plus $25 for each additional printed card. See multi-state fingerprinting.

- The fingerprint instructions from the board, school or clinical site
- The ORI number, if one was provided
- Any fingerprint cards the agency supplied
- A payment or transaction receipt, if the board requires one

Nursing student fingerprinting FAQ
Planning a session? Call (816) 442-0295 with your class size and dates.
Our graduating nursing class needs fingerprints. Can you fingerprint the entire cohort on campus?
Yes. We run campus and group sessions for whole cohorts. Send us the roster in advance and we check each student’s board or placement requirement before the day, then complete FD-258 cards or electronic submissions as each requirement demands. Billing can be consolidated to the program or paid individually by each student.
Our clinical partners require background checks before rotations. Can you help?
Yes. Clinical sites usually set the requirement through the school, so start with the instructions your program gives students. If they call for fingerprint cards or an FBI Identity History Summary, we can handle the whole group in one session before the placement deadline.
When should graduating students get fingerprinted for licensure?
Follow the state board’s timeline. Many boards ask for fingerprints with or shortly after the license application, and the background check often needs to clear before the board authorizes the licensure exam. Fingerprinting too early can also be a problem if the board limits how old the prints can be, so check the instructions before scheduling.
Some of our students are applying for licenses in other states. Is that a problem?
No. Each student follows their own board’s instructions, and we note that on the roster. Students applying to more than one state can use Multi-State Print-to-Card: one digital capture and multiple printed cards when permitted by the receiving agency. For cohort sessions, this is included in the written session quote.
What should students bring to the session?
A valid government-issued photo ID, the fingerprint instructions from their board, school or clinical site, the ORI number if one was given, any agency-supplied cards, and a payment or transaction receipt if the board requires one.
Plan your cohort’s fingerprinting session.
Send us your class size, dates and each student’s requirement. We’ll confirm the right method for everyone before the session.
