Kansas & Missouri educator licensing
Teacher & Substitute Fingerprinting in Kansas City
Kansas and Missouri educators are fingerprinted differently. The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) accepts its own preformatted FD-258 card by mail, which we roll for you. Missouri DESE uses the MACHS system and IdentoGO, with a mailed card option only for applicants who live outside Missouri.

Kansas: see KSDE’s fingerprint information page, which has the preformatted card, the current fee and the mailing address. Missouri: see DESE’s fingerprinting and background check page for the registration code to use in MACHS.
Missouri runs its fingerprint checks through the Missouri Automated Criminal History Site (MACHS) and its state vendor, IdentoGO. Applicants who live outside Missouri, or who are physically unable to visit an IdentoGO site, can choose card processing instead: register in MACHS with the agency’s registration number, pay for the card service, then mail the confirmation page and a fully rolled FD-258 card to IdentoGO. The IdentoGO card scan instructions accept cards rolled by any fingerprinting provider, including Live Scan prints printed to an FD-258.

Teacher & substitute fingerprinting FAQ
More questions? Call (816) 442-0295 or send us your agency’s instructions.
Can you fingerprint me for a Kansas teaching license?
Yes. KSDE accepts its preformatted FD-258 card by mail. We roll the card and give you an envelope, and you mail it to KSDE with the separate background fee KSDE lists. Do not combine that fee with your license application fee.
Do Kansas substitute teachers need fingerprints?
Yes. KSDE asks standard and emergency substitute license applicants for a fingerprint card too. The process matches the teaching license.
I live in Kansas but will teach in Missouri. Where do I get fingerprinted?
Missouri lets out-of-state residents use MACHS card processing. Register in MACHS with your DESE or district code, choose card processing, and we roll the FD-258 card you mail to IdentoGO.
I live in Missouri. Can you do my DESE fingerprints?
No. Missouri residents applying for a DESE certificate are fingerprinted electronically at an IdentoGO location through MACHS. We can still roll cards for any Kansas or out-of-state license you hold.
