Mortgage loan originators
NMLS Fingerprinting for Mortgage Loan Originators
Mortgage loan originators licensed in Missouri, Kansas and most other states complete a criminal background check through NMLS. NMLS takes those fingerprints through its own approved vendor, Fieldprint, so we cannot take your NMLS prints ourselves. This page explains the process honestly, and what we can help with.

How NMLS fingerprinting works
NMLS controls the whole process. You authorize the background check in NMLS, then schedule fingerprints with NMLS’s approved vendor.
| Step | What happens | Can we help? |
|---|---|---|
| Authorize the check | You request the criminal background check in NMLS as part of your filing. The authorization is valid for a limited time. | No. This is done in your NMLS account. |
| U.S. residents | Fingerprints are taken by Live Scan through Fieldprint, NMLS’s approved vendor. | No, unless your instructions name us. We are not an NMLS fingerprint location. |
| Non-U.S. residents | NMLS ships Fieldprint’s own fingerprint card kit to the address on file. | Ask us. Send the kit instructions and we will tell you if we can roll the cards. |
| Other licenses you hold | Insurance, real estate or other state licenses with their own fingerprint rules. | Yes. See the related pages below. |
NMLS requires U.S. residents to be fingerprinted through its approved vendor. A standard FD-258 card rolled at our office, or anywhere else outside that process, is not accepted for the NMLS background check. Follow the NMLS criminal background check instructions to schedule.
The Missouri Division of Finance and the Kansas Office of the State Bank Commissioner license mortgage loan originators through NMLS and rely on its background check.

NMLS fingerprinting FAQ
More questions? Call (816) 442-0295 or send us your agency’s instructions.
Can you take my NMLS fingerprints?
Not for U.S. residents. NMLS requires its fingerprints to be taken through its approved vendor, Fieldprint, after you authorize the background check in NMLS. We are not an NMLS fingerprint location.
Will NMLS accept an FD-258 card I had rolled myself?
No, not for U.S. residents. NMLS fingerprints go through its approved vendor. Non-U.S. residents receive Fieldprint’s own fingerprint card kit from NMLS.
Do Missouri and Kansas use NMLS for loan originator licensing?
Yes. The Missouri Division of Finance and the Kansas Office of the State Bank Commissioner both license mortgage loan originators through NMLS and use its criminal background check.
What can you help mortgage professionals with?
Fingerprints for other licenses with their own rules, such as Kansas insurance producer licensing, real estate licensing on the Kansas side, and FBI Identity History Summary requests. Send us the instructions and we will confirm.
Not sure which licenses need prints?
Send us every license you are applying for, and we’ll tell you which ones we can help with.
