Do fingerprints help with a NICS denial appeal?
They are optional, but the FBI notes that submitting fingerprints can help its Appeal Services Team confirm your identity and may speed up your appeal, especially when a denial results from a biographic match to someone else’s record.
How do you prepare NICS appeal fingerprints?
We take your prints on an official FBI fingerprint card, either rolled or digitally captured on certified equipment. The card includes our agency name, address, phone number and ORI number, is signed by the person who took your prints, and is clearly marked “For NICS Purposes”, meeting the FBI’s requirements so it attaches cleanly to your appeal instead of getting bounced.
How do I submit them with my appeal?
Once your card is completed to FBI specification, it is ready to attach to your online eDO appeal or to mail in along with your NTN or STN (the tracking number from your denial or resolution notice). We hand you the finished card prepared the way the FBI requires, you submit it through whichever appeal channel you are using.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring a valid photo ID and your NTN or STN, the tracking number printed on the denial or delay notice you received from your firearm purchase attempt. This number is what ties your fingerprint card to your specific appeal.
My ATF/NFA application was denied through NICS, can you help?
Yes. If your NFA application was denied through NICS as part of a Firearm Related Challenge, we can prepare appeal fingerprints to FBI specification the same way as for a standard firearm purchase denial, official card, agency details, ORI, signature and marked “For NICS Purposes”, ready to attach to your appeal.
