Hospitals and healthcare
Shawnee does not have a hospital inside city limits, but several are close by. AdventHealth Shawnee Mission sits just east in Merriam, the University of Kansas Health System’s main campus is in Kansas City, Kansas, and AdventHealth Lenexa City Center opened a short drive south in 2025. Nurses at hospitals like these who are applying for a Kansas license by exam, by endorsement or for reinstatement typically need a Kansas Board of Nursing fingerprint card. KSBN accepts an FD-258 card rolled by a private provider; we sign the KSBN waiver as your technician on the same day, and you mail the card yourself.
Healthcare workers licensed in Missouri as well, which is common for Shawnee nurses who pick up shifts across State Line, can ask about Multi-State Print-to-Card so one capture covers each board that permits it. Clinic, therapy and home care staff should check our healthcare fingerprinting page, since many Kansas care roles start with a name-based check instead of fingerprints.
Schools and colleges
Two public districts serve Shawnee. Shawnee Mission School District covers the eastern part of the city and runs Shawnee Mission Northwest High School on West 67th Street. De Soto USD 232 covers much of western Shawnee and runs Mill Valley High School on Monticello Road. Teachers, substitutes and paraprofessionals in either district apply for Kansas licensure through KSDE, which uses its own preformatted FD-258 card mailed with a separate background fee. Bring the KSDE card and we roll it, as our teacher and substitute fingerprinting page explains.
Johnson County Community College in Overland Park and the University of Kansas Edwards Campus are the closest colleges for many Shawnee students. Nursing and health science students are often asked for fingerprints or an FBI record before clinical rotations; see our nursing student fingerprinting page.
Employers and business areas
Shawnee’s industrial and logistics growth is concentrated along K-7, including the FedEx Ground facility on Cole Parkway near 83rd Street and the Heartland Logistics Park buildings. Warehouse, package-handling and delivery roles more often call for pre-employment drug testing, and commercial drivers need DOT drug and alcohol testing.
Downtown Shawnee, Johnson Drive and the Shawnee Mission Parkway corridor are home to small businesses, insurance agencies, real estate offices and childcare providers. Their owners and staff tend to need licensing prints: Kansas insurance producer cards, the KREC card route for real estate agents who cannot complete Live Scan in Kansas, or FBI records for international moves.
